Maharashtra Extends EWS Quota to Marathas After Supreme Court Setback

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government today expanded advantages under the monetarily more vulnerable segment (EWS) portion to the Maratha people group, days after the Supreme Court rejected a different reservation in positions and schooling for the predominant gathering of people.

The Supreme Court had, on May 5, struck down a state law that allowed reservations in positions and training to the Maratha people group.

The EWS standard will be appropriate to the local area from the time of break stay (on Maratha reservation) on September 9, 2020, to the last decision by the Supreme Court in May 5 this year, the public authority request said.

The EWS standard will be appropriate for SEBC competitors whose arrangements were forthcoming before the interval stay and won’t be pertinent to those up-and-comers who have profited by the SEBC portion in arrangements and confirmations, it said.

In another turn of events, the Shiv Sena-drove MVA government stretched out till June 7, the residency of the Justice Dilip Bhosale Committee, set up to audit the top court’s May 5 decision and guidance the state on the future game-plan.
